International Women’s Day 2024

Help progress gender equality by making a difference in your workplace this International Women’s Day.

Bring International Women’s Day to your workplace.

By hosting an International Womens Day event everyone in your business has the opportunity to learn, share and celebrate together.

Join us in supporting the theme Count Her In this International Women’s Day and help raise vital funds for the women we support.

Based on the priority theme for the United Nations 68th Commission on the Status of Women, the theme Count Her In highlights the pathways to greater economic inclusion for women and girls everywhere. We must ensure women and girls are given equal opportunity to build their capabilities and strengthen their capacity to learn, earn and lead.

While important progress has been made, women face significant obstacles to achieving equal participation in the economy. Without equal access to education, employment pathways, financial services and literacy, how can we ever hope to reach gender equality?

Step One:

Send this letter to your boss

We have drafted a letter for you to send to your boss outlining the theme for this years International Women’s Day – Count Her In: Invest in Women. Accelerate Progress. This also outlines why hosting and event and fundraising for the Zahra Foundation this year will support women recovering from domestic abuse be economically empowered.

Step Two:

Download the toolkit

Share the newsletter copy and social media assets, advising your staff and key stakeholders that you are supporting the Zahra Foundation and the work we do economically empowering women recovering from domestic abuse this year.

By downloading the toolkit you will:

Learn about this years theme Count Her In: Invest in Women. Accelerate Progress.

Learn about the signs and devastating effects of domestic and financial abuse.

Learn how The Zahra Foundation supports women to be economically empowered and break the cycle of violence for women and their children.

You’ll also learn about the importance of empowering women economically and giving them equal chances to build their capabilities, and help them learn, earn, and lead.

Step Three:

Plan your event or fundraiser

Get everyone together to join in on 8th March supporting International Womens Day and celebrating women’s accomplishments.

History is filled with important events that have made the world a better place. Women have always played essential roles in the movements for voting rights, civil rights, LGBTQ+ rights, labor rights, children’s rights, and much more. They’ve also accomplished great things in every field, including medicine, science, literature, and politics. International Women’s Day is a great opportunity to recognise all these successes while raising money to progress the empowerment of women recovering from domestic abuse.

CEO of UN Women Australia Simone Clarke said that it was important for women to be empowered to earn and manage their income and be afforded equal access to finance. Simone stressed the importance of ensuring all women have equal access, capacity and capability to fully participate in the economy. This requires shifting behaviors and perceptions that inhibit economic participation and limit investment in women. Increasing women’s economic empowerment means economies grow, children and families prosper, and women have resources available to leave abusive situations.

As a not-for-profit service we prioritize economic empowerment through tailored educational initiatives and financial counselling.  The Zahra Foundation offers pathways to education, training and employment, specialised financial counselling and small grants for women who have been impacted by family and domestic violence.

On average, it takes seven attempts for women to leave an abusive relationship, as women fear falling into poverty or homelessness. This fear is unfortunately the experience for over 100,00 Australian people today who are homeless or living in poverty due to fleeing domestic violence. By providing pathways to economic empowerment and financial independence, the Zahra Foundation ensures women and their children not only live a life free from violence and abuse but also have financial stability and avoid becoming a part of this growing number.

Zahra Foundation Australia works to address the issue of gendered violence through its innovative programs, advocacy for change and community awareness. The Zahra Foundation develops its programs and services through a co-design process with survivor advocates and is a policy innovator in its mission to break the cycle of domestic abuse.
