Women on the Run returns for a seventh year with biggest target yet

Women on the Run returns for its seventh year with a $50,000 target to support domestic violence recovery.

South Australians are invited to run, walk, or stroll a 4km round trip along the shoreline from Grange to Henley and back on Sunday 20 March in support of the Zahra Foundation.

The run is a chance for the community to come together, in solidarity, and support women on their journey from domestic violence.

Demand for Zahra Foundation programs and services has increased by a staggering 26% during the COVID19 pandemic.

“Recovery of domestic violence is a journey that the Zahra foundation takes with a woman, in providing tailored services to and pathways to employment, education and financial independence” Kelly-ann Tansley, Zahra Foundation General Manager said.

“Financial insecurity is a driver for women returning to violence. On average it takes seven attempts to leave, so if we can wrap support around women with a focus on their own future that includes financial security, then we know we can break the cycle.

Zahra Foundation programs and services focus on re-building self-esteem, decision making and finding financial security for a safer future.

“Our $50,000 target would ensue that many women would access to safe and practical help in recovery,” said Ms Tansley.

Zahra Foundation Chair Natasha Malani explained it’s a great opportunity for those who want to do something, but don’t know where to start.

“This run brings like-minded people together to not only raise vital funds, but to send a message that we will support women who are recovering from abusive relationships”.

On the day we also pay tribute to Zahra Abrahimzadeh who was killed by her estranged husband at the Adelaide Convention Centre in March 2010.

Credit Union SA return as the event major sponsor with CEO Todd Roberts stating, “we are thrilled to be supporting the incredible work of the Zahra Foundation again. Our commitment to supporting those in our community is stronger than ever”
